Nobody hands you anything at welterweight. Ricky Glenn — "The Gladiator" to fight fans — has built a 22-9 record the hard way, one fight at a time since leaving the United States's regional scene.

The record shows a bit of everything: knockouts (13), submissions (3), decisions (6). Well-rounded is an overused word; here it's just accurate. Add the southpaw stance, and the puzzle gets harder still.

The last fight went to Song Kenan (Decision - Unanimous) — a setback, and the interesting question is always what a fighter does with one.
