David Benavidez's first real test at cruiserweight has a date. The undefeated 32-0 (26 KO) champ meets Poland's Michal Cieslak on December 5, a three-belt unification landing on DAZN PPV. It was originally penciled in for a week later, but the move earlier on the calendar keeps it clear of Joshua vs Fury.

Nobody involved has confirmed the venue in their announcements, but BoxRec and reporting from TVP Sport's Piotr Jagiello both point to Phoenix — which lines up with earlier reports. For Benavidez, who stopped Gilberto Ramírez inside six rounds in his last outing, it's a chance to clean up a division he's barely started.

How This Became a Three-Belt Fight

The three-belt framing exists partly thanks to Noel Mikaelian's Zuffa detour, which cost him the WBC cruiserweight title after he declined to face mandatory challenger Benavidez. That cleared the lane. Cieslak, meanwhile, holds the interim belt he won by taking apart Jean Pascal back in June of 2024, a result that pushed his knockout run to seven straight.

Cieslak's 28-2 record carries a caveat worth flagging: he's come up short in both of his biggest nights, including an ugly stoppage loss to Lawrence Okolie in 2022, and his last decision win is genuinely ancient at this point. Still, seven KOs in a row says he's dangerous when the stars don't shine too bright. The hope is this sets up a clash with lineal king Jai Opetaia, 30-0 (23 KO), for everything next year.

The Undercard Taking Shape

There's no official undercard yet, but the pieces are leaking out. Per reporting from Julius Julianis, Vergil Ortiz Jr is slated to face Keith Thurman in a clash-of-generations bout, while interim WBC middleweight champ Jesus Ramos Jr gets an opponent TBA — he's stuck waiting while full champ Carlos Adames (25-1-1, 18 KO) handles a voluntary defense and then a mandatory.

Chris Mannix adds another one to the mix: the stalled Elijah Garcia against rising Irishman Tommy O'Toole at super middleweight, which is a sneaky-good matchup if it holds. Add it up and Benavidez-Cieslak headlines a card with more substance than the main event alone suggests.
