Chris Eubank Jr has formally walked back the corruption accusations he levelled at the British Boxing Board of Control and its official Mr Smith, issuing a public retraction and apology almost exactly a year after the fact. The statements originally came at a press conference on 17 September 2025, where the 37-year-old claimed Smith was in the back pocket of Matchroom and Eddie Hearn and had used fines to line his own pockets.

The numbers behind Eubank's anger were real enough. He was hit with £100,000 for slapping Benn with an egg during fight week, a further £10,000 over social media posts showing him in a sauna cutting weight, and a £500,000 contractual forfeit for coming in slightly over the limit. That's £610,000 in combined penalties — enough to make any fighter feel singled out, even if the solution wasn't to accuse the governing body of fraud.

The Climbdown

In the retraction, Eubank accepted that his claims were untrue and without foundation, said neither Smith nor the Board were corrupt, and apologised for the harm caused. He also confirmed a settlement had been reached on confidential terms, with all parties now treating the matter as closed. The timing — one year on and reportedly after a looming legal fight — tells you plenty about how this was always going to end.

Benn's response was predictably light. He reacted to the social media post with a string of laughing emojis, which is about as on-brand as this rivalry gets.

Where the Feud Stands

On the canvas, the two are deadlocked at 1-1. Eubank took the first meeting by unanimous decision, a genuinely thrilling scrap, before Benn turned the rematch into a clear points win. A trilogy has been floated, though the landscape shifted when Benn walked into a brutal knockout loss against Ryan Garcia last month.

That defeat dropped Benn to 25-1 (14 KO), his first blemish as a pro. Garcia, now 25-2 (20 KO) and the WBC welterweight champion, delivered the stoppage after outpointing Mario Barrios in his previous outing. Whether a third Eubank fight still carries the same weight after that result is the real question — but at least the off-ring legal drama is finally settled.
