Contender Series Season 10 Opens With Undefeated Heavyweights Wint and Adams

Dana White's Contender Series is back for a tenth season on Tuesday at the Meta APEX, and the producers have flipped the usual script by handing the closing slot to a pair of undefeated heavyweights. Anthony Wint, a former New York Jets linebacker turned MMA wrecking ball, meets "Bad" Matt Adams in the main event — and Wint arrives with the kind of numbers that make matchmakers lean forward. He's finished five of six pro fights, with his last two wins clocking in at 31 and 37 seconds.

Adams isn't walking in as a body, either. The New Lexington, Ohio native has stopped five of his six victories and rides a 5-1 run since his 2023 debut, with his only defeat coming in an LFA title fight against unbeaten Nurmagomedov School product Arslan Bilalov this past January. A first-round finish in March punched his ticket to Vegas.

Why the Opener Matters

The heavyweight math on DWCS is stark. Last season featured just four heavyweight matchups all year — and all four winners are on the roster now, with three walking away with contracts. That's a small sample with a huge hit rate, so a statement performance from either man Tuesday almost guarantees a spot on the sport's biggest stage. Wint carries the hype; the question is whether the spotlight rattles him and whether Adams can spring the upset.

The lightweight pairing between Fabrizio Escarrega and Abe Alsaghir might be the most fan-friendly fight on the card. Combined, they're 17-1 with 15 finishes. Escarrega, a Mexican standout who recently dropped from welterweight, opened his new weight class with a 44-second stoppage to push to 9-1 (eight finishes) on a three-fight streak; his lone loss came via an arm injury in 2023.

Alsaghir is the tougher read. He's unbeaten across eight pro bouts, trains under former UFC fighter Ronny Markes at Porrada in Las Vegas, and has finished his last four. The caveat: the regional competition has been thin — the youngest of his last three opponents was 39 and on a losing skid. Tuesday tells us a lot about his real ceiling.

The Pipeline Is No Longer a Question

Whatever doubts existed when the series launched in 2017 are long gone. More than 40 Contender Series graduates sit in the current rankings, headlined by light heavyweight champion Carlos Ulberg (15-1, 10 KO), fresh off a first-round knockout of Jiří Procházka. Add former titleholders Jamahal Hill, Sean O'Malley and Jack Della Maddalena, plus surging welterweight Carlos Prates — now ranked #2 at 24-7 after starching Della Maddalena with third-round elbows.

The newer wave moves fast, too. Josh Hokit, Navajo Stirling and lightweight Quillan Salkilld all turned Contender Series success into rising-star status within a year or two of hitting the Octagon. Season 10 is essentially a ten-week audition to find the next name on that list — and it starts with the big boys throwing hands Tuesday night.
