Contender Series Week 3: Galanti and Humphrey Steal the Show With First-Round Finishes

Week 3 of Dana White's Contender Series Season 10 didn't ease anyone into the evening. Cage Fury middleweight champion Nick Galanti opened the card at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas and needed all of 35 seconds to fold Carlos Petruzzella with a first-round knockout that had the crowd on its feet before most of them had settled into their seats.

It was a clinical demolition. Galanti came out fast, reacted to a Petruzzella body kick and shot for a takedown. Petruzzella defended it well and kept the fight standing — which, as it turned out, was the wrong place to be.

The 35-Second Statement

With Petruzzella pinned against the fence, Galanti simply changed weapons. He abandoned the wrestling and ripped a right hook that dropped Petruzzella flat to the canvas. Referee Keith Peterson was still shifting to find a clean angle when Galanti moved in and hammered home a burst of ground strikes to seal it.

That's the kind of performance the Contender Series exists to reward. A regional champion, a violent opener, and a highlight that plays on loop. If Galanti was auditioning for a UFC contract, he could hardly have written a louder pitch.

The night's second act belonged to Ronald Humphrey, son of former Strikeforce fighter Ron "Abongo" Humphrey, who turned his welterweight bout with Alexis Miranda into a one-sided beating before choking him out in the first round.

Humphrey's Grind-and-Finish

Miranda had promised to lean on his boxing, and he opened exactly that way — a quick double jab into a right hand. Humphrey's response set the tone for everything that followed: he stepped inside, scooped Miranda up and slammed him to the mat.

Miranda showed heart. He fought back to his feet, ate a knee to the head, and later landed a couple of clean shots to the body from range. At one point he even stood with his arms spread wide, as if daring Humphrey to bring more. Humphrey obliged with an ugly elbow that busted Miranda open, then a stiff shot that dropped him.

From there it was academic. Humphrey scooped Miranda up and slammed him again, worked to the back on the mat and locked up a tight rear-naked choke for the tap. A first-round submission wrapped in enough violence to make it a statement rather than just a win.

Two fights, two first-round finishes, and a clear message from the opening portion of the card: nobody was here to grind out decisions.

What Comes Next

The headline attraction is Bella Mir, daughter of former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir and a UFC BJJ veteran, who meets fellow bantamweight prospect Alex Apodaca in the main event. It's a familiar name carrying the top billing, but the fighters who opened the show made sure the spotlight wasn't going to be handed over easily.

The full five-bout card streamed live on Paramount+ in the United States, starting at 7pm ET. On the evidence of the opening two contests, the fighters who came to finish were the ones giving Dana White the easiest decisions of the night.
