Diego Pacheco is set to headline Matchroom's November 14th "The Fight" card on TNT and DAZN against Darius Fulghum, according to multiple reports. It's the latest chapter in a story that keeps repeating itself: the unbeaten American, 26-0 with 19 knockouts, has the resume and the rankings for a belt but keeps choosing the scenic route.

Pacheco sits at No. 2 in the WBO — behind newly elevated champ Janibek Alimkhanuly — and No. 3 with the WBC, trailing only Canelo Alvarez and Jacob Bank (19-0, 11 KO). With Hamzah Sheeraz bailing on a mandatory against Alimkhanuly over the weekend, that WBO strap is now up for grabs, and Pacheco could have put his hand up. He didn't.

The Case Against the Matchup

Instead he lands Fulghum, a 15-1-1 (13 KO) prospect whose recent record reads like a warning label. "DFG" dropped a tight decision to Bektemir Melikuziev in a WBA eliminator last year, largely on a last-round knockdown, then drew with David Stevens in a fight nobody wants to relive. If Canelo beats Mbilli next month, the WBC has a habit of skipping over interim champ Lester Martinez, which could open a lucrative lane. Bank, meanwhile, looks poised to step up against Alimkhanuly, leaving Pacheco free to wait.

Pacheco snapped a three-fight finish drought in July, battering Immanuwel Aleem inside 11 rounds in Carson after a shutout on the cards. He's got the tools. The frustration is watching a 26-0 fighter with genuine title options keep taking the safe fight and calling it strategy.
