DWCS Week 8 Preview: Five Unbeaten Prospects Chase UFC Deals

Week 8 of Dana White's Contender Series lands September 29 at the UFC Meta APEX in Las Vegas, and the math is brutal as always: ten fighters, five fights, zero guaranteed contracts. Four of the athletes on this card walk in undefeated, which tells you the matchmaking is tight and someone's perfect record is coming apart on Paramount+.

The most eye-catching resume belongs to Ilias Bulaid, the 31-year-old Moroccan striker sitting at 9-0 with five knockouts and one submission across his nine wins. A six-time NFusion champion who's fought in Japan and China, Bulaid is betting his elite kickboxing translates to MMA's biggest stage. Standing across from him: Erick Visconde, a 29-year-old Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt with a 17-3 mark, six KOs, six subs and an LFA featherweight title he won while fighting through a broken hand in the second round.

The Undefeated Log-Jam

The strawweight matchup pits two very different paths against each other. Aieza Bertolso, 25 and 7-0 out of Rio's KO Squad, captured the LFA strawweight belt in September 2025 and is billed as a finish-hunter who'd rather hurt you than hold you down. Her opponent, 21-year-old Camila Reynoso, is the outlier here — she's the only one of the four prospects highlighted who's actually tasted defeat.

Reynoso's story is the interesting one. The Buenos Aires product opened her career 7-0 before dropping her first fight, then reeled off two dominant wins in response, pushing her to 9-1. She's also got Ultimate Fighter reps under her belt, which matters when the cameras and pressure ramp up. She says she's planning a first-round finish; Bertolso says the same thing about herself. Only one of them gets to be right.

The featherweight clash brings its own flavor. Ian Escuza, an unbeaten 30-year-old (7-0) out of Lima, opened his own gym at 21 to fund his training and has spent over a decade chasing this shot, guided by mentor Gastón Bolaños. He faces 26-year-old Roman Luca Borando of Aurora MMA. Escuza frames this as the biggest opportunity of his career and wants to open doors for the next wave of Peruvian fighters.

The format hasn't changed and it doesn't need to. White and his panel of matchmakers watch the whole card, then decide who's earned a UFC deal — sometimes it's everyone, sometimes it's nobody. For the undefeated crowd especially, this is the night the perfect record either becomes a calling card or a footnote.
