Hamzah Sheeraz Wants Canelo Next — If the Mexican Beats Mbilli First

Hamzah Sheeraz isn't shy about who he wants next. The unbeaten WBO super-middleweight champion, 23-0-1 with 19 knockouts, said on the Mr Verzace Podcast that a unification bout with Canelo Alvarez would be an honour — provided the Mexican gets through Christian Mbilli first. Canelo, now 63-2-2 (39 KO), meets WBC titleholder Mbilli in Riyadh on October 31.

That Halloween date is the whole story here. Canelo is chasing a belt he used to own outright, having lost his undisputed status to Terence Crawford twelve months ago via unanimous decision. Crawford (42-0, 31 KO) walked away from the division almost immediately after that win, the belts got reshuffled, and Canelo spent time sidelined by injury. Now he's picking off the men who inherited his old crown, one at a time.

Sheeraz Plays It Cool

Sheeraz's pitch was measured rather than desperate. He said he intends to keep winning and keep turning in big performances, and that if the fight materialises, it materialises. He called Canelo a legend of the sport — the kind of respect that doesn't cost him anything but reads well ahead of a potential negotiation. Coming off a second-round stoppage of Alem Begic, he's got momentum on his side.

The catch is that Sheeraz has his own business to handle before any Canelo talk gets serious. He's been ordered to defend against mandatory challenger Janibek Alimkhanuly, with a purse bid hearing scheduled for September 16. Skip that, and the WBO strap he's dangling in front of Canelo disappears from the equation entirely.

What Has to Happen First

So the unification everyone's daydreaming about needs two clean results: Canelo has to solve Mbilli in Riyadh, and Sheeraz has to get past Alimkhanuly without losing his belt in the process. Neither is a gimme. The Riyadh card is a genuine event, headlined by 'Mexico vs. The World' and already stacked with three world title fights.

For now, this is a champion planting a flag. Sheeraz sees the biggest name in the division back in the mix and wants his slice — but he's smart enough to know the sequencing runs through October 31, not through a podcast. If Canelo wins, the conversation gets real fast.
