Hernandez vs Rodrigues Undercard Locked: Sacramento's Best Bets

The UFC hasn't set foot in Sacramento since July 2019, and it's coming back on August 22 with a middleweight main event between Anthony "Fluffy" Hernandez and Gregory "Robocop" Rodrigues at the Golden 1 Center. The headliner will grab the marquee, but the supporting cast is where the real intrigue lives — a full slate now confirmed and loaded with unbeaten prospects, short-notice fill-ins, and a couple of debutants worth circling.

Start at lightweight, where Gauge Young draws a curveball. His original opponent, Kody Steele, is out injured, so undefeated newcomer Stan Dorsainvil steps in at short notice. Young is riding back-to-back 2026 wins over Maheshate and Thiago Moisés and wants a third straight. Dorsainvil brings a clean 5-0 slate, most recently a third-round submission under the LFA banner.

Short-Notice Scraps and Debuts

Injuries reshaped the featherweight picture too. Mauricio Barbosa, who opened his UFC run with a first-round knockout of Dennis Buzukja in April, now faces Ryan Kuse instead of the injured Danny Silva. Kuse is a 9-2 pro with six knockouts, all of it built outside the Octagon, and he's chasing that same output on debut. Barbosa, meanwhile, is aiming to push his overall win streak to six.

The most compelling stylistic riddle might be Chris "Taco" Padilla against veteran Nasrat Haqparast at lightweight. Padilla was 4-0 and undefeated through five until MarQuel Mederos fought him to a draw at UFC 327. Haqparast is back for his first fight of the year after a five-fight streak got snapped by a knockout loss to Quillan Salkilld at UFC 321, and he's hunting a reset.

Mederos, for his part, doesn't get to duck the rematch storyline. He faces Wales' Mason Jones in his first walk since that draw, having gone 3-0 in the UFC before the deadlock. Jones is a tricky assignment — three straight since his 2025 return, the latest a Fight of the Night decision over Axel Sola, who's since bounced back with a first-round submission of Ismael Bonfim.

Featherweight and Heavyweight Wildcards

Jamall Emmers returns for the first time in 2026 to meet the surging Lerryan Douglas at featherweight. Emmers went 2-0 last year, including a first-round finish of Gabriel Miranda, while Douglas has ridden a debut knockout of Julian Erosa in March to a six-fight win streak. The heavyweight opener is pure lottery ticket: former NFL man Anthony Wint, fresh off a 34-second DWCS knockout, debuts against Terrance Chatman, who earned his own promotional first-timer via leg-kick TKO at Fury FC.

Prelims kick off at 5pm ET, with the main card at 8pm ET, streaming on Paramount+. On paper, the undercard reads deeper than the headliner — and that's saying something.
