Joshua Eyes Fury Showdown as He Faces Prenga's 16-Fight Streak in Jeddah

Anthony Joshua steps back into the ring Saturday at the Jeddah Superdome in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and the stakes go well beyond the man in the opposite corner. A win over Kristian Prenga is the last box he needs to tick before a long-teased collision with Tyson Fury, the fight the sport has circled for years.

Prenga is not a name-brand opponent, but he's not a walkover either. He walks in on a 16-fight win streak, and Joshua's entire job Saturday is to end it cleanly enough to justify the Fury talk. Joshua sits at 29-4 with 26 knockouts, coming off a sixth-round stoppage of Jake Paul in his most recent outing.

That KO number tells you everything about how Joshua wants this to go. Twenty-six of his 29 wins have come inside the distance, and against an opponent with a gaudy record but limited elite exposure, a decision would read as a warning sign rather than a result. He needs to look the part of a heavyweight who can share a ring with Fury.

Undercard Results

The main event is slated to begin around 6 p.m. ET, and the undercard has already done its part to warm the room. Sultan Almohammed handled Efren Besalduch, closing the show with a third-round TKO at 2:41. It was the kind of finish that gets a crowd loud before the headliners walk.

Omar Hikal took care of Brian Castellano on the same card, sweeping every scorecard 42-35 across all three judges. Shutout margins like that don't leave much room for debate. Hikal controlled the rounds and never gave Castellano a foothold.

Mohamed Moubarak added another decision win, beating Bryan Zapata with cards of 39-37 and 40-36 twice. Closer than Hikal's stroll, but still a comfortable enough night's work to send another local favorite home happy.

The Fury Equation

The Prenga fight isn't happening in a vacuum. Fury just handled his own business Friday in Thailand, beating the enormous Mariusz Wach in a tune-up that kept his side of the equation on track. The pieces are being lined up on both ends, and Joshua knows it.

That's why the pressure sits squarely on him. Prenga's streak makes for a nice narrative hook, but nobody is booking a Fury undisputed spectacle off the back of a 16-0 run against unproven competition. Joshua is the draw, and he's the one who can blow the whole thing up with a bad night.

Feuds Brewing Elsewhere

Elsewhere on the promotional radar, Oscar De La Hoya kept up his running feud with Dana White and Zuffa Boxing, reaching for a Homer reference in his latest jab at the operation. The Golden Boy boss has made needling White something of a hobby lately.

The bad blood isn't limited to promoters. Conor Benn and Ryan Garcia traded insults through their first press conference, and a physical faceoff only turned the temperature up. Benn talked plenty of trash on the way out.

That build has real weight behind it. Garcia holds the WBC welterweight belt and enters at 25-2 with 20 knockouts, fresh off a unanimous-decision win over Mario Barrios. Benn counters at 25-1 with 14 KOs, coming off his own unanimous-decision nod over Regis Prograis.

For now, though, Jeddah belongs to Joshua. Beat Prenga, look sharp doing it, and the Fury conversation stops being a hypothetical. Stumble, and the biggest heavyweight fight left on the board takes a hit before it's ever signed.

The math is simple. Joshua's power has always been his ticket, and Prenga's unbeaten run is exactly the kind of record that either survives a real test or gets exposed by one. We'll know soon which it was.
