Keyshawn Davis resurfaced this week with a bold claim: a December fight with Richardson Hitchins is done. In a social media clip, Davis said Hitchins had finally accepted the matchup and framed it as deeply personal, promising to resurface for the occasion and warning Hitchins he's coming for him.

There's no formal announcement yet, so treat the booking as a claim rather than a contract until the promoters confirm it. But the pieces fit. Hitchins, now aligned with Zuffa's boxing arm, needs a name opponent to push his career forward, and Davis — for all his detours — remains one of the more marketable talents in the division.

Davis also leaned into the drama, insisting he doesn't lose fights that are personal. Big talk from a man whose recent track record has been more about what he hasn't done than what he has.

The Self-Sabotage Problem

Davis's career has been a study in avoidable setbacks. The most glaring example came when he spent months publicly calling out Devin Haney, only to pull out once that fight was actually ordered and he held the mandatory position. You don't get many chances to force a fight with a fighter of Haney's standing and then walk away from it.

For context on what Davis sidestepped: Haney is 33-0 with 15 knockouts and currently holds a WBO welterweight title, coming off a unanimous decision over Brian Norman Jr. That's the level of opponent Davis had in his crosshairs before backing out. Talent has never been the question with Davis. Consistency and follow-through have.

So the Hitchins fight, if it materializes, is a chance to reset the narrative. Both men have something to prove — Hitchins needs a credible scalp to climb, and Davis needs to show up and actually fight after a stretch of noise without delivery. A firmer announcement should fill in the venue, title implications and weight. Until then, Davis has given us the quote. Now he has to give us the fight.
