Khamzat Chimaev Headlines RAF's Abu Dhabi Debut on Nov. 14

Khamzat Chimaev is taking his wrestling league ambitions to his own backyard. RAF announced its debut show in Abu Dhabi on Nov. 14, the first date under a fresh five-year agreement with the Department of Culture and Tourism, and Chimaev sits in the main event slot against an opponent still to be named.

The promotion has already run shows in Georgia and Moscow before this expansion. Chimaev, who told MMA outlets the arena is a five-minute drive from his house, framed the event as personal — he helped grow the concept and now competes under its banner. The pitch is simple: build wrestling into a global product, and start with a home crowd.

A UFC-Heavy Card

Chimaev isn't the only active UFC name attached. Arman Tsarukyan is booked to compete in Abu Dhabi just weeks after he's slated to headline RAF 14 in October against Dillon Danis. The UFC's No. 2-ranked lightweight is 24-3 (10 KO, 6 SUB) and coming off a first-round knockout of Mauricio Ruffy at UFC 331 — one of six lightweights in the top rankings, and among the few crossover stars RAF can plausibly market to an MMA audience.

Beyond the MMA names, RAF is stacking the card with pure wrestling pedigree. Co-founder Chad Bronstein confirmed Kyle Snyder, Jordan Burroughs and Abdulrashid Sadulaev are all set to compete. Former two-division UFC champ and Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo is also expected to wrestle on the show.

Why It Matters

Co-founder Izzy Martinez leaned into the idea that wrestling is a universal language — that competitors recognize each other's grind instantly and that mutual respect drives the league forward. The Abu Dhabi trip also brings the first RAF Next Gen event to the region, a nod to building talent pipelines rather than just booking one-off spectacles.

There's a subplot worth tracking too. Chimaev has said he wants Colby Covington next — the same Covington who racked up a quick 10 points to beat Belal Muhammad at RAF 13 in Miami. Covington (17-5) is unranked and coming off a doctor's-stoppage TKO loss to Joaquin Buckley in the UFC, while Muhammad (24-6) recently dropped a decision to Gabriel Bonfim. For now, Chimaev's Abu Dhabi opponent stays a mystery — but the guest list suggests RAF is betting big on turning wrestling into appointment viewing.
