Luke Campbell Floats Comeback to Fight Conor Benn After Garcia Loss

Conor Benn lost more than a fight last weekend at Las Vegas' T-Mobile Arena. He lost the argument that he belongs at world level. Ryan Garcia, defending his WBC welterweight title, needed just two rounds to hand Benn the first defeat of his career, dropping him to 25-1 (14 KO) against Garcia's 25-2 (20 KO).

The gap in speed and class was obvious from the opening bell. Benn hadn't fought at 147lbs since 2022 — the same year he tested positive for clomifene — and the ring rust, or the weight, or both, showed. It was, by any honest reading, a mismatch.

An Unexpected Suitor

Enter Luke Campbell. The former Olympic gold medallist told Seconds Out he'd happily walk away from retirement to share a ring with Benn. If Benn is short on dance partners, Campbell said, a comeback might be on the table — a fight he reckons would get the buzz going again.

It's a pitch, not a signed contract. But it speaks to where Benn sits now: a name with commercial pull, minus the credibility of a title contender.

What's Next for Benn

Even before Garcia exposed him, Benn had been talking about moving up to middleweight or super-middleweight, where a trilogy with Chris Eubank Jr looks far more realistic than another welterweight world title tilt. Under Dana White's Zuffa Boxing banner, Benn remains a marketable draw regardless of the loss.

Campbell knows the terrain, for better and worse. He earned two world title shots in his career, dropping decisions to Jorge Linares and Vasyl Lomachenko, before Garcia stopped him in the seventh. That last detail carries a certain irony — the man offering to test Benn was himself finished by the same fighter who just wrecked him.

Whether the fight happens is another matter. Benn has bigger, richer names circling, and a Campbell comeback is more idea than plan for now. But if Benn does need a live body to rebuild against, there's at least one Olympian raising his hand.
