Mandel Nallo Looks to Reset in Edmonton After First-Round Debut Loss
Every one of Nallo's 19 pro fights has ended inside the distance. He's 14-4 and back Saturday against a featherweight moving up in Nate Landwehr.

Mandel Nallo's UFC career is one fight old and already carries a familiar shape. The 37-year-old Montreal lightweight made his promotional debut in Winnipeg in April against British veteran Jai Herbert, a bout he openly called a measuring stick. It started well and then unravelled into a first-round TKO — the first time in a 19-fight career that Nallo had been stopped in the opening round.
Now he's back, touching down in Edmonton for Saturday's UFC Fight Night: Buckley vs. Malott at Rogers Place, where he meets Nate Landwehr on the main card. The numbers around Nallo are unusual: he's 14-4 (8 KO, 6 SUB) with every single one of his 19 professional fights finishing inside the distance. Nobody's taken him to a decision, and he's never taken anyone there either.
Work Over Outcome
A debut loss tends to trigger overcorrection — new gyms, new coaches, a frantic hunt for whatever went wrong. Nallo, who's trained at Tristar for well over a decade, has pushed back on that instinct. He said the goal after a loss is to reformat without throwing away the good work, to understand how and why it happened without blowing everything up. He's seen fighters switch teams or quietly train less after a defeat, and he thinks that's exactly the trap.
He's also refused to pretend the loss is behind him. Nallo said none of his losses are truly in the rearview, and that moving forward comes down to understanding there's no other route and leaning on a support network he trusts. For a self-described kill-or-be-killed fighter, that clarity matters: three of his four defeats have come by strikes, and April's was simply the quickest.
The Landwehr Problem
Landwehr arrives as another measuring stick, though a tricky one. He's 18-8 (9 KO, 2 SUB) and moving up to 155 for the first time in the UFC after a wild, entertaining 5-6 run at featherweight. His last outing was a first-round KO loss to Cub Swanson, so like Nallo he's looking to steady himself. Two finish-hunters who don't do boring — this one isn't going the distance either, if history means anything.
If there's pressure after the hype that surrounded his debut, Nallo isn't showing it. He said a fight's a fight, that the stakes would feel identical if this were his second amateur bout, and that being perceived as a guy who shows well in these matchups is a decent place to sit. The next step, in his words, is simply to make good on it. He'll let everyone know Saturday.
