Mark Chamberlain Stops Pierce O'Leary in a Dublin War for the Ages

Mark Chamberlain walked into a Dublin bearpit as the B-side and the underdog, then walked out with the biggest win of his career. The English fighter stopped hometown favourite Pierce O'Leary in the 10th round at a rowdy 3Arena on Saturday, closing a swing fight that had more turns than the M50.

Chamberlain moves to 18-1-1 (13 KO) and hands O'Leary the first loss of his career, dropping the Dubliner to 19-1 (11 KO). This was supposed to be a coronation on home soil. Instead it became a genuine Fight of the Year contender that neither man will forget.

Chamberlain came out blazing, using the crowd's hostility as fuel rather than pressure. He put O'Leary down in the second and again in the third, and by the middle rounds the local hero was fighting with what looked like a broken nose, blood pouring for the rest of the night.

To his enormous credit, O'Leary didn't fold. He rallied hard, went to the body, and in the seventh he dumped Chamberlain heavily with a shot downstairs. For a stretch it looked like the Dubliner might just steal it back through sheer stubbornness and volume.

The card doubled as a launchpad for Zuffa Boxing, with Edgar Berlanga and #2-ranked super lightweight Richardson Hitchins (20-0, 8 KO) making their debuts on the same bill. Hitchins arrives off a TKO of George Kambosos Jr, and the promotion clearly wants nights exactly like this one to sell the product.
