Marvin Vettori Goes Back to His Roots to Snap a Four-Fight Skid

Marvin Vettori is trying to reverse the worst stretch of his career the old-fashioned way: by going back to where it started. The 19-10-1 middleweight has dropped four straight in the UFC, and ahead of UFC 332 he's rejoined his original team, reuniting with longtime training partner Beneil Dariush to, in his words, find himself again.

The former title challenger's most recent setback was a unanimous-decision loss to Brunno Ferreira. That defeat capped a slide that has taken Vettori from the doorstep of the belt to unranked at 185 pounds. He steps back in against Ismail Naurdiev at UFC 332: Silva vs. Wang, with plenty riding on the result.

The Logic Behind the Move

Vettori framed the reunion as a return to what built him in the first place. He pointed back to the version of himself that ran off five consecutive wins and earned a shot at the middleweight crown, and said he's genuinely excited to compete again rather than just showing up. It's the kind of language you hear from a fighter who knows a fifth straight loss changes the conversation about his UFC future.

The Dariush connection is worth a look on its own. The Iranian-American lightweight sits at #14 in his division with a 23-8-1 record and eight submissions to his name, a grappling-heavy profile that mirrors Vettori's own. Nine of Vettori's 19 wins have come by submission, so this isn't two strikers trading pointers. It's a rebuild around a shared skill set.

Dariush is also fighting his way back. He was stopped by first-round punches in his last outing against Quillan Salkilld, so both men are chasing momentum at the same time. That mutual hunger tends to sharpen a training camp rather than dull it.

For Vettori, the math is simple. Two of his 19 wins are knockouts, meaning he leans on volume, pressure and grappling to win rounds — exactly the style that carried him during that five-fight run. Rediscovering it against Naurdiev would be the cleanest possible answer to every question the losing streak has raised.
