Musumeci Steps Up to Featherweight to Meet Bryce Mitchell at UFC BJJ 11

Mikey Musumeci has finished every single opponent he's faced under the UFC BJJ banner. Four fights, four submissions, zero losses. On September 24 he'll try to keep that clean sheet against a heavier man, headlining UFC BJJ 11 in a featherweight show match against UFC bantamweight Bryce Mitchell. The card streams live on UFC Fight Pass at 8 pm ET / 5 pm PT.

This is Musumeci's fifth UFC BJJ main event, and the first time he's willingly given up weight to make it. The Las Vegas-based champion has tapped Kevin Dantzler, Shay Montague and Keven Carrasco in the Bowl, and he's stayed undefeated for almost five years. His pitch for this one is simple: he says he'll compete with anyone on the planet, size be damned.

Mitchell's Grappling Résumé

Mitchell arrives with no prior UFC BJJ appearances, but he's hardly a novice on the mat. The Searcy, Arkansas black belt owns an MMA record of 19-4 with 10 of those wins by submission, including a twister — one of the few ever landed in the Octagon. His most recent cage outing was a third-round submission of Santiago Luna, and he's promised to shock the grappling world here.

It's a fascinating stylistic clash. Musumeci is arguably the most decorated sport-jiu-jitsu practitioner in the promotion, while Mitchell's game was forged in MMA scrambles and dark rooms. One is stepping up, the other is stepping into unfamiliar rules. That tension is exactly why this fight sits at the top of the marquee.

The Title Fight Underneath

The co-main carries the actual gold. Light heavyweight champion Mason Fowler (3-0, two submissions) defends against Nick Rodriguez in a rematch of their 2024 meeting, which Rodriguez won by decision. Fowler has since submitted or beaten Devhonte Johnson, Pedro Machado and David Garmo to build his case as the best 205-pound grappler around.

Rodriguez, out of Austin and widely regarded as one of the sharpest grapplers competing today, sits at 1-0-1 in UFC BJJ after an emphatic first-round submission of Joao Nicolite. He wants two straight and his first title. Fowler wants revenge and his belt intact. Tickets are on sale now through AXS, with the rest of the card still being finalized.

Add it up and September 24 is a genuine grappling doubleheader: a perfect submission record on the line at featherweight, a title score to settle at light heavyweight. Not a bad Thursday.
