Oscar Collazo's Flyweight Jump Stalls After Rib Injury Scraps Sandoval Fight

Oscar Collazo's plan to climb two weight classes just hit a wall. The WBO minimumweight champion, unbeaten at 15-0 with 12 knockouts, has pulled out of his October 10 challenge against WBC and WBA flyweight titleholder Ricardo Sandoval after suffering a rib injury in camp, Golden Boy confirmed.

That's a meaningful jump he was chasing — from 105 lbs all the way up to 112, skipping past light flyweight entirely to raid a division he doesn't yet call home. Collazo pushed hard for the matchup himself, and by his own account this was a fight he wanted badly. Now it's shelved, though he's made clear he intends to reschedule.

Collazo apologized to Sandoval and his team in a statement, saying he'd trained seriously throughout the camp and had prepared to be ready for fight night. Rib injuries are stubborn things in boxing — hard to hide, harder to punch through — so no timeline should be assumed here.

The Card Survives

The good news for Golden Boy and Most Valuable Promotions, who are co-promoting the event, is that the show still has a spine. The main event remains intact: Floyd Schofield versus Lucas Bahdi for the vacant WBA lightweight title.

That's not a bad fallback to lean on. Schofield, 19-0 with 13 KOs and ranked #7, is coming off a first-round stoppage of Tevin Farmer — the kind of statement result that gets a prospect fast-tracked. Bahdi, ranked #10, is also spotless at 20-0 (15 KO), most recently taking a unanimous decision over Roger Gutiérrez.

Two undefeated lightweights, a vacant belt, and no obvious favorite between them. Collazo's absence stings for anyone who wanted to see a minimumweight king test himself well above his best weight, but the headliner should carry the night just fine. The Sandoval fight, meanwhile, goes back on the shelf until Collazo's ribs cooperate.
