Patchy Mix Blows Weight by 6.3 Pounds, Yanked From RIZIN 54 Co-Main

Patchy Mix came to RIZIN 54 to reset his career at bantamweight. Instead, he stepped on the scale in Tokyo at 63.85kg — a full 6.3 pounds over the 61kg limit — and got booted from the co-main event slot against Shoko Sato. The promotion promptly bumped another bout up the card to fill the gap.

Here's the kicker: RIZIN's rules automatically flip any overweight fighter's win to a no-contest. So even if Mix runs through Sato on Tuesday, he can't officially get his hand raised. That means his winless streak is locked in at three regardless of how the fight goes.

How He Got Here

This wasn't supposed to be the plan. Mix debuted for the Japanese promotion back in March at featherweight and got stopped in the second round by Kyoma Akimoto. The move back down to 135 was meant to be a course correction after two UFC losses — to current #4 bantamweight Mario Bautista and to Jakub Wiklacz. Bautista, for context, has since gone on to beat Cory Sandhagen and is 18-3 (7 SUB) sitting near the top of the division Mix used to rule in Bellator.

Missing by six-plus pounds is a rough look for a fighter who was once considered one of the best 135ers outside the UFC. Weight-cut misses happen, but this is a staggering margin — not a pound or two of dehydration gone wrong, closer to a full weight class off target.

Mix Isn't Alone

The same no-contest rule bit Alibek Gadzhammatov, who tipped the flyweight scale 3.85 pounds heavy ahead of his fight with Yuki Ito. Two overweight fighters, two guaranteed non-results before the cage door even closes.

At the top of the card, things went smoothly. Kyoma Akimoto — the man who handed Mix that March knockout — and former champion Kleber Koike both hit weight for the featherweight main event. For Mix, the challenge now is simpler and grimmer: figure out where a career goes when even a win doesn't count.
