Paulo Costa has never been shy with a keyboard, and his latest post pushed well past the usual trash talk. The UFC's No. 6 light heavyweight — 16-4 with 12 knockouts and his most recent win a third-round TKO over Azamat Murzakanov — used social media to tell fellow Brazilians that the "airport is the way out" following a political win for Lula.

Costa framed it as personal advice. He said leaving Brazil was the best thing he ever did, that he now lives in the United States, and that he'd help anyone who wants it secure documentation to do the same. He added that his bags are already at his other home in Las Vegas, and warned things in Brazil would get "much harder" over the next four years.

A Fighter Who Lives Online

None of this is out of character. Costa has spent years cultivating a persona that's equal parts menace and meme, and his feeds routinely blur the line between promotion and provocation. This time the subject wasn't an opponent — it was his home country, and the tone was openly political.

He went further in a reply, telling a critic that it's the people stuck in Brazil who'll end up crying, and claiming he no longer has anything to do with the country. For a fighter still ranked inside the top six of his division, it's a striking distance to put between himself and the fanbase that helped build him.

What It Means for Costa

On paper, his career position is solid. The jump to light heavyweight has given him a fresh lane, and the finish of Murzakanov — a clean kick stoppage in the third — showed the power that carried him through his middleweight run is still live. At 16-4 with a 12-KO haul, he's a dangerous name for anyone in the 205-pound mix.

The noise around him, though, has always arrived in two flavors: what he does in the cage and what he types out of it. The second kind rarely helps the first. Costa's next booking will tell us whether this stays a social-media footnote or starts following him into fight week.
