Ryan Garcia Accepts Mayweather Challenge — But Only With His 0 on the Line

Garcia (25-2, 20 KO) says no exhibition — he wants a real fight. And a 2027 win could make Mayweather the sport's first 50-year-old champion.

Floyd Mayweather's 2026 comeback chatter just got a new, far younger dance partner. With the Manny Pacquiao rematch stalled by Mayweather's legal disputes, FightHype reports that talks are underway for a showdown with WBC welterweight champion Ryan Garcia — and Garcia, 25-2 with 20 knockouts, has publicly confirmed Mayweather reached out to him.

There's one condition, and it's a big one. Garcia says he's not interested in an exhibition. He wants Mayweather's unbeaten record — that famous 0 — actually on the line. He fired back at the challenge by telling Mayweather he's ready, reminding the five-division champ that he made the call first, and insisting the offer is on the table for a sanctioned professional fight.

Why the Timing Matters

The clock is the real story here. Mayweather turns 50 in February 2027, and if a Garcia bout lands on or after February 24, a win would make him the first 50-year-old to hold a world title in boxing history. The current benchmark belongs to Bernard Hopkins, who was 49 when he lost his light-heavyweight belts to Sergey Kovalev back in 2014.

That assumes the WBC would sanction the whole thing, which isn't a given — but it isn't fantasy either. The sanctioning body has shown a soft spot for ranking legends generously; Pacquiao himself is the obvious example. Stranger approvals have happened.

The Reality Check

Before anyone starts printing tickets, Mayweather has to clear the legal mess tied to the collapsed Pacquiao contracts. That deal was postponed rather than cancelled, with no new date offered, and until it's untangled a Garcia fight stays theoretical.

Pacquiao, for his part, has already moved on. The Filipino icon is reportedly lined up for the Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua bill in December — his first undercard appearance since the Erik Morales vs Zahir Raheem card in 2005. Garcia, meanwhile, is still booked against Conor Benn, so his own schedule has questions of its own before any Mayweather talk gets serious.
