Schofield-Bahdi Fight for Vacant WBA Title as Collazo Jumps Two Divisions

Golden Boy has built its October 10 card at Chicago's Wintrust Arena around two very different kinds of gambles. Floyd Schofield (19-0, 13 KO) and Lucas Bahdi (20-0, 15 KO) will settle the vacant WBA lightweight title between two unbeaten fighters, while 105-lb champion Oscar Collazo (15-0, 12 KO) skips a weight class entirely to challenge unified flyweight titlist Ricardo Sandoval (27-2, 18 KO). It's a real championship night for a city that rarely gets them.

The lightweight belt is up for grabs because Gervonta Davis has been sidelined by a mix of legal and personal problems and was downgraded to "champion in recess" by the WBA back in January. Davis hasn't fought since his March 2025 draw with Lamont Roach Jr. — he talked loudly about a rematch, nothing happened, and even a novelty crossover with Jake Paul fell through after another arrest. Paul went on to fight Anthony Joshua instead and got stopped in the sixth. So the title fell to the fighters actually willing to show up.

The Lightweight Puzzle

Schofield, the #7-ranked lightweight, is only 24 and has been treading water waiting for the WBA to move. He last fought in June 2025, wiping out veteran Tevin Farmer in 78 seconds, and had a scrap with JoJo Diaz scrubbed last November after an injury. Bahdi, 32, is the more curious story: signed by Jake Paul's Most Valuable Promotions as a B-side to make prospect Ashton Sylve look good, he instead knocked Sylve out in the sixth round in July 2024 — after losing every prior round.

Since that upset, Bahdi has gone the distance with Armando Casamonica, Ryan James Racaza, and a faded Roger Gutierrez, ten and twelve rounds each. Lucky to be here? Maybe. But he punches, he's unbeaten, and Schofield can't afford to treat him like the easy night the numbers suggest.

Collazo's Big Leap

The night's genuinely intriguing fight is Collazo moving up from 105 to 112. Golden Boy officially lists him as the challenger to Sandoval — a quiet tell that even his own promoter sees him as the star of the pairing. Collazo already holds the WBA and WBO 105-lb belts and cleared out late-notice Neider Valdez inside two rounds in June, but he'd been signalling a move up all year anyway.

The physical gap is the real concern. Collazo is listed at 5'2" with a 61-inch reach; Sandoval, at 5'6" with a 67-inch span, is no belt-holding fluke — he traveled to Japan and stunned Kenshiro Teraji to grab the WBC and WBA flyweight straps in July 2025. His scheduled UK defense collapsed when Galal Yafai pulled out injured. History is littered with brilliant 105-lb fighters who couldn't carry their edge up even one division, let alone two. Collazo's betting he's the exception.
