Skye Nicholson Pulls Out of Aug. 29 Birmingham Card With Injury

Skye Nicholson's first big outing under the Most Valuable Promotions banner is on hold. The WBC super bantamweight champion, 16-1 with 3 KOs, has withdrawn from the MVPW-06 card in Birmingham, England on Saturday, August 29 after picking up an injury in training last week. Tysie Gallagher slides onto the main card in her place.

Nicholson was booked to meet Miyo Yoshida, and the champion made a point of apologizing directly to Yoshida and her team for the delay. She said she has real respect for the fight and still expects to share the ring with Yoshida before the end of the year. No specifics on the injury have been released.

This is a frustrating detour for a signing MVP clearly wanted to build around. For Gallagher, the short-notice call-up is the sort of opportunity that changes a career trajectory. Stepping into a main-card slot vacated by a reigning world champion puts eyes on you that you don't usually get to buy. She'll want to make the most of the spotlight in Birmingham.

The bottom line: MVP loses a marquee attraction from its next UK show, but the Yoshida fight is only postponed, not cancelled.
