Talita Alencar Eyes a Title Shot — But Piera Rodriguez Stands in the Way
Both strawweights ride three-fight win streaks into Saturday's clash in Las Vegas. Something has to give — and Alencar wants a belt in 2027.

Talita Alencar steps into Meta APEX on Saturday as a No. 14-ranked strawweight carrying a win streak and a chip on her shoulder — and she's already talking about a belt. The 36-year-old Brazilian faces Piera Rodriguez at UFC Fight Night: Moicano vs Nolan in her sixth Octagon appearance, less than three years after her UFC debut and little more than five since she turned pro.
It's a streak-vs-streak setup. Both women arrive riding three straight wins, which means one of those runs ends in Vegas. Alencar's most recent came via unanimous decision over Julia Polastri earlier this year; Rodriguez edged Sam Hughes on the cards back in March. "La Fiera" came into the promotion undefeated before dropping back-to-back fights to Gillian Robertson and Ariane Carnelossi — the only two losses on her record.
Finding the Style
Alencar says the turning point in her career was settling into a striking identity she trusts. She credits her confidence in the pocket, arguing nobody enjoys trading with her at close range and that she carries real power despite standing just 5'1". She's name-dropped Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson, flyweight champ Joshua Van and current strawweight titleholder Mackenzie Dern as fighters she's studied to build her own game.
That said, Alencar remains a grappler at heart. She's a BJJ black belt who's leaned on submissions to get through her career, and she's blunt about her plan for Rodriguez: frustrate her on the feet, then finish on the mat. She acknowledges Rodriguez is a solid boxer with good fight IQ, but insists it won't be enough to keep her out of trouble once the exchanges get tight.
The Bigger Picture
Alencar isn't shy about where she wants this to lead. She said she intends to fight for the title next year if the UFC gives her the nod, and she rates herself on par with the division's elite grapplers — specifically name-checking No. 5-ranked Gillian Robertson, who most recently dropped a decision to champion Dern. It's an ambitious pitch for someone still outside the top ten, but Alencar frames it as part of a long-term plan that's running on schedule.
She describes her approach as fighting "free" — not fixating on the finish, just reacting and trusting the work she puts in between camps. For a fighter this early into her MMA life, the climb has been steep and fast. Beat Rodriguez and the title talk stops sounding like bluster. Lose, and the streak that got her here goes with it. Prelims start at 5pm ET, main card at 8pm ET, streaming on Paramount+ in the US.
