That looked like a natural off-ramp for a months-long feud. Garcia hit the gas instead, claiming on Helwani's show that nobody even knows who Crawford is anymore — that security didn't recognize him — and that 'Bud' still has unfinished business in the sport.

Crawford's reply was more amused than angry. He called Garcia a movie character, said he was only entertaining him for the theatre of it, and insisted Garcia had nothing to be jealous of. The retirement, Crawford pointed out, was on his own terms — and he suggested Garcia was the one bothered by that.

Every name Crawford dropped represents a live, credible fight — the implication being that Garcia is reaching past a retired legend rather than testing himself against active elites.

There's more traffic on that list than Crawford mentioned, too. Gervonta Davis, the WBA lightweight at 30-0-1 (28 KO) coming off a majority draw with Lamont Roach Jr., is also angling for Garcia — though 'King Ry' has already pushed back on the terms offered. For now, the one man Garcia most wants isn't budging. Crawford's message was simple: he retired the way he wanted, and no amount of trash talk is dragging him back.
