Tim Bradley Warns Devin Haney Off a Jaron Ennis Superfight

Tim Bradley has a blunt message for Team Haney: park the Jaron Ennis talk. The Hall of Famer used his YouTube channel to argue that a jump to 154lbs against 'Boots' is exactly the wrong style matchup for Devin Haney, the unbeaten 33-0 (15 KO) WBO welterweight champion. Bradley reckons the smart, calculated Haney would have his moments before getting, in his words, chopped down.

The numbers back the caution. Ennis is 36-0 with 32 knockouts — an 89% finish rate that dwarfs Haney's own 15 stoppages in 33 wins. In June, 'Boots' dethroned Xander Zayas by seventh-round TKO to claim the WBA and WBO super-welterweight straps, dropping Zayas three times along the way. That's the wrecking ball Haney's father Bill has publicly floated as a target.

Bradley's Reading of the Matchup

Bradley's case is about physics as much as skill. He described Ennis as one of the most athletic and strongest men between 147 and 154lbs, a fighter who's longer than Haney and can match his output over a full 12 rounds. Haney's ring IQ, Bradley conceded, would buy him some success — just not enough to survive a full night against that size and pressure.

There is a sliver of an opening in Ennis's game. Against Zayas he looked briefly hurt by a right hand in the third, a rare crack that several rivals have since claimed they'd exploit. Haney is among those who've flirted with the idea of moving up from 147. Bradley clearly isn't buying that one flash of vulnerability changes the math.

What's Actually on the Table

For now, the Ennis fight is theoretical. Keyshawn Davis, 15-0 (10 KO), turned down a crack at Haney's welterweight belt, leaving 'The Dream' hunting for a dance partner since he outpointed Brian Norman Jr. last November in a bout he lit up with a third-round knockdown. Reports put Haney in advanced negotiations with Jack Catterall instead.

Catterall, 33-2 (14 KO) and ranked #9 at welterweight, is coming off a unanimous-decision win over Shakhram Giyasov. It's a live, credible test without the danger Bradley keeps flagging. Expect Haney's first WBO defense to land on October 3 — and expect it to be against the Brit, not the man his father keeps naming.
