Tyler Denny Walks Into Callum Walsh's Dublin Backyard at Zuffa Boxing 10

Tyler Denny is 35, 28 fights deep, and about to walk into one of the loudest buildings in European boxing to spoil a homecoming. On Saturday the former European middleweight champion crosses the Irish Sea to face undefeated Irish prospect Callum Walsh in the co-main event of Zuffa Boxing 10 at Dublin's 3Arena.

This is not new territory for Denny. He's shared a ring with six previously unbeaten fighters and taken the 0 from all of them. Walsh, the local golden boy fighting in his home city, would be number seven — and by Denny's own admission, a spoiler job in someone else's backyard is exactly the kind of assignment he lives for.

The Long Road Here

Denny's path was anything but linear. He came up as an amateur boxing around a day job as a plumber, and his career only found gear when a sponsor bankrolled a month off work for a fight against 10-0 Derrick Osaze. Denny won, the sponsor told him to quit the tools entirely, and he hasn't picked one up since. Even so, regular fights stayed hard to come by — as recently as late last year he took a small-hall bout for next to nothing just to stay sharp.

The break came at London's Copper Box Arena, where Denny lost a competitive decision to rising prospect George Liddard in a British and Commonwealth title fight. He didn't get his hand raised, but a strong showing off the back of a small-hall card was enough to earn the Zuffa Boxing call. Denny said he plans to use Walsh's hype to build his own profile, expecting a hostile crowd and rather enjoying the idea of turning it quiet.

What's at Stake in the Division

Zuffa Boxing's 160-pound picture is already stacked with unbeaten talent. Etinosa Oliha sits at #5 with a perfect 21-0 (9 KO) ledger, coming off a third-round TKO of Alexander Pavlov. Walsh belongs in that conversation of prospects being protected and promoted. Beating him on home soil wouldn't just add another scalp to Denny's collection — it would drop him straight into that mix.

Denny said he's not looking past Saturday, and given his history of small-hall detours, that's smart. But the endgame is clear: he wants to fight in Vegas, a country he's never even visited. First, though, there's a room full of Irish fans to silence. He said he'd take on anyone, said yes to this the second it landed, and reckons he's got what it takes to test Walsh properly.
