The UFC's August schedule runs five straight Saturdays, and it's built on a simple, timeless setup: established names trying to hold their ground against fighters who want their spot. Jan Blachowicz opens the month in Belgrade on August 1, and at 43 he's staring down a genuine reckoning. The former light heavyweight champion has gone four fights without a win, and while all four came against titleholders or top contenders, the results still read the same on paper.

Across from him is Alfie Stirling, a City Kickboxing product riding a 10-fight win streak overall and 5-0 in the UFC. Stirling turned around fast, stepping in barely a month after finishing Ion Cutelaba, his second stoppage of the year. A win over Blachowicz drops him straight into the 205-pound contender chase. That's the whole month in one bout: does the veteran halt the climb, or does the younger man take the leap?

Belgrade's Homecoming Headliner

The Serbian main event doesn't fit the theme, but it's still the card's most intriguing scrap. Uros Medic returns home for the first time in almost seven years, riding a three-fight winning streak and freshly parked in the welterweight Top 15 thanks to a habit of ending fights suddenly. Daniel Rodriguez, 20-5 and coming off a unanimous decision over Kevin Holland, fights for the first time in over a year and wants a fourth straight win. Rodriguez said a victory would let everyone know he's back. He's durable, relentless, and exactly the kind of test that can derail a hyped prospect.

Two Divisions, Same Story

August 8 in Las Vegas gives us the strawweight version of this dance. Amanda Lemos, 38 now and 2-4 over her last six, has lost only to elite company: Zhang Weili, Virna Jandiroba, Tatiana Suarez, and Gillian Robertson, who beat her by unanimous decision. Her opponent, Thainara Guedes, is 14-1 with a 12-fight win streak and a perfect 3-0 UFC start. She profiles as a real future problem for the division, not just another prospect fed a name.

The lightweight edition sees Mateusz Gamrot, a bona fide Top 10 fixture, take on Quillan Salkilld. Gamrot's beaten his last two up-and-comers in Ludovit Klein and Esteban Ribovic, but neither carried Salkilld's momentum. The Perth man opened 2026 by blitzing Jamie Mullarkey and then stopping Beneil Dariush, ranked #14, with first-round punches in his own hometown. Five UFC wins, four first-round finishes, four bonuses. That's a résumé that forces people to pay attention.

What makes this Gamrot-Salkilld pairing unusual is that a loss might not cost either man much. Gamrot's proven he can absorb a setback and stay relevant; Salkilld's ceiling is high enough that a competitive defeat wouldn't tank his stock. That's rare.
