Katie Taylor is walking away from boxing this Saturday, and she's doing it exactly where she always wanted — inside Croke Park in Dublin, in front of the crowd that watched her grow into the sport's biggest female name. Standing in the way of a fairytale exit is Flora Pili, who Taylor herself acknowledges is arriving with one clear job: to ruin the party.

Speaking to Matchroom, Taylor pushed back on the idea that fight night will be a tearful goodbye. She said the emotions won't be sad ones at all — they'll be joy and gratitude, a chance to look back over a career she's more than satisfied with. Her phrase for it was simple: a heart full of gratitude, on her dream stage, at home.

Not Her Call to Make

Ask most people whether Taylor is the greatest female fighter ever and you'll get a quick yes. Ask Taylor and she deflects. She said that judgment is for others to make, but she'll happily stand on one thing — she never ducked anyone. She went looking for the best names, chased big performances, and tried to drag the whole division up with her.

That last point isn't hype. Taylor's rivalries and headline nights turned women's boxing from an afterthought into a genuine main-event draw. Whatever happens Saturday, the sport she's leaving looks nothing like the one she entered.

Pili's Opportunity

For Pili, this is the kind of night careers are built on. Taylor framed it plainly: it's a great opportunity, and Pili is coming to spoil the day. A win over Taylor — on Irish soil, on the final page of her story — would be the biggest result of Pili's life.

Taylor insists she's ready to close the book on her own terms, and doing it at Croke Park is the stuff of dreams for her. But boxing rarely reads the script it's handed. Get the last chapter right and it's a perfect ending. Get it wrong and Pili writes it instead.
