Kurtis Campbell Chases First UFC Win in Paris After London Setback

Kurtis Campbell arrived in the UFC unbeaten and left his debut with the first blemish on his record. The Liverpool-based Englishman, now 8-1 (5 KO, 1 SUB), was stopped in the second round by Danny Silva in London. On Saturday in Paris he gets his do-over against American slugger Trevor Peek at UFC Fight Night: Hooker vs. Parnasse.

It's a step up in difficulty on paper. Peek is 9-3 with eight of his nine wins coming by knockout, and crucially, he's never been finished by strikes or submission. He walks people down and dares them to hit him. Campbell isn't pretending that's not a problem — he just thinks it's an opening.

Campbell reckons Peek's biggest strengths double as his biggest liabilities, and he's planning to counter exactly those tendencies. Translation: he wants Peek marching forward so he can punish him for it. Whether the chin that's survived nine pro fights holds up against a fighter who's finished five of his own is the live question.

No Hangover From London

For all the disappointment of the result, Campbell still frames his debut as the best week of his life — home soil, packed arena, the full UFC experience. He's leaned on a line from his dad: the highs aren't that high and the lows aren't that low. So he went straight back to The MMA Academy and got to work on what went wrong, rather than sulking.

That first walk mattered, too. Campbell admitted the London crowd was bigger than he'd braced for, and now that the nerves of a debut are banked, he says he's ready to show the improvements rather than just survive the occasion. Paris, with its notoriously loud fanbase and a scene only recently unshackled after MMA's legalization in France, should oblige on atmosphere.

The favourite fighter tell is a nice touch: Campbell named former strawweight champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk as his idol back in his UFC signing Q&A, citing her aggression and sharp striking. If he fights in that mould on Saturday, Peek is a willing dance partner. Campbell says he thrives under the pressure of the job and expects the first UFC win to feel amazing — and to be the start of a streak, not the end of a story.
