Cortes-Acosta vs. Johnny Walker Rescues UFC Vegas 124 Main Event
A heavyweight scrap replaces the scrapped Bonfim-Brady welterweight headliner after Sean Brady's injury pullout. Cortes-Acosta (17-4) is chasing his first win in three.

UFC Vegas 124 just got a new top line. With the original welterweight headliner between Gabriel Bonfim and Sean Brady wiped out by a Brady injury, the promotion has slotted in a heavyweight clash between Waldo Cortes-Acosta (17-4) and Johnny Walker (23-10, 1 NC) to close out next Saturday's card at the Meta APEX.
It's a short-notice rebuild with real stakes for both men. Cortes-Acosta is trying to stop a two-fight slide that's dragged him down after he'd gone 8-1 and climbed into the heavyweight top 10. Walker, meanwhile, arrives fresh off one of the better knockouts of his career.
Where Cortes-Acosta Stands
The Dominican heavyweight dropped back-to-back decisions to Curtis Blaydes and #2-ranked Alexander Volkov (41-11), which stalled momentum built on finishes of Derrick Lewis, Shamil Gaziev and Ante Delija — the latter now sitting at #9 with a 26-8 record. Those are credible names, and the knockout power is legit. The problem is simple: elite wrestling and volume have figured him out over 15 minutes. A finish here resets everything.
Walker's situation is more intriguing. He spent years as a light heavyweight contender before jumping up a division, and the move paid off immediately. At UFC 332 this past October he put Mick Parkin away with a flying knee, the kind of highlight that justifies the entire experiment. A win over a ranked opponent on short notice would fast-track him into the heavyweight conversation.
There's still some fine print to sort out. It's not yet clear whether the bout runs three or five rounds given the late booking, and Bonfim's status is up in the air — the promotion was hunting a replacement, but he may have little interest in giving up a headline spot to fight further down the card.
The rest of the show holds up regardless. The co-main pits Tatiana Suarez against Virna Jandiroba in a genuine top-tier strawweight matchup, a fight with actual title-picture implications. Pair that with a late heavyweight main event where both guys can finish, and a reshuffled card suddenly looks like it landed on its feet.
