Dan Ige Drops to Bantamweight to Face David Martinez at Noche UFC
Ige moves down a division for the first time in his 22nd octagon walk, riding a two-fight skid into a date with the 14-1 Martinez on Sept. 12.

The UFC has bolted two more fights onto its annual Noche UFC card, and the headliner-in-waiting is a division change nobody was quite expecting. Dan Ige, a fixture at featherweight for years, is dropping to bantamweight for the first time in his career to meet David Martinez on Sept. 12 in Glendale, Arizona. It'll be Ige's 22nd walk to the octagon.
The timing isn't subtle. Ige comes in on a two-fight slide, capped by the first stoppage loss of his 30-fight career — a spinning back kick from Melquizael Costa that ended things in the opening round at UFC Houston in February. At 19-11 overall, the veteran clearly wants a reset, and 135 pounds is the fresh start he's chosen.
A Steep Welcome to 135
Martinez is not a soft landing. The 14-1 prospect has gone 3-0 since arriving in the UFC and already owns wins over ranked names Marlon Vera and Rob Font, the Vera win coming by unanimous decision. He sits at No. 8 in the bantamweight rankings and carries a 10-KO finishing habit, so Ige isn't just changing weight classes — he's stepping straight into a live contender's path.
That's the gamble. Ige has never fought this small, and his most recent outing showed the kind of vulnerability a rising finisher will look to exploit. Beat Martinez, though, and he instantly re-enters the conversation in a division that's arguably deeper and more chaotic than the one he left.
The card's second addition is a welterweight scrap between Ignacio Bahamondes and Muslim Salikov. Bahamondes, 17-7 with 11 knockouts, is trying to halt a two-fight skid of his own after dropping a unanimous decision. Salikov is looking to rebound from a brutal 63-second knockout loss to Uros Medic last November.
No main event has been announced for Noche UFC yet, which leaves plenty of room for the promotion to stack the top of the card. For now, Ige's leap down a weight class is the story worth watching — a proven gatekeeper betting on reinvention against a prospect built to close the door on exactly that.
