Volkanovski Finishes Evloev, Yan Edges Dvalishvili in UFC 333 Trilogy
Volkanovski (28-4) stopped Evloev and Petr Yan won a razor-close trilogy over Merab Dvalishvili in Abu Dhabi. Two titles held, two GOAT cases growing.

Alexander Volkanovski didn't just defend his featherweight title at UFC 333 in Abu Dhabi — he finished Movsar Evloev, the one 145-pound name who'd built a reputation on never losing. That moves Volkanovski to 28-4 (13 KO, 3 SUB) and reopens the only argument that still matters in his division: is anyone close to him?
In the co-main, Petr Yan completed the hardest kind of win there is, taking the rubber match from Merab Dvalishvili to swing a brutal trilogy his way. It was a comeback effort against one of the most relentless pressure fighters in the sport, and it keeps the bantamweight crown exactly where Yan wants it.
Volkanovski Makes His Case
Evloev walked in undefeated and walked out with the blemish he'd spent his whole career avoiding. For Volkanovski, who'd last banked a unanimous decision over Diego Lopes, a finish is the louder statement. He reminded everyone that the featherweight ceiling is still him, and that his résumé — now four defeats across 32 fights — belongs in any serious GOAT conversation at the weight.
The interesting wrinkle is what comes next. There's talk of booking Volkanovski against lightweight champion Justin Gaethje in a bout that would ask both men to vacate their belts. Gaethje is coming off a fourth-round knockout of Ilia Topuria and sits at 28-5 (21 KO, 1 SUB). On paper it's a fireworks fight. In practice, it would leave two divisions headless at once, which is a big ask.
Yan Survives the Grind
Dvalishvili is a nightmare matchup for anyone — the volume, the takeout attempts, the pace that never dips. Yan solved it the third time around, weathering the storm and finding enough in the tank to take the decision. That's the definition of a trilogy: three fights, three different chapters, and the man who adjusts last wins.
Where both go now is the fun part. Yan has beaten the sport's busiest bantamweight and reasserted himself as the division's measuring stick. Dvalishvili, for his part, doesn't disappear from the picture after one tight loss — his style guarantees he stays relevant and probably stays near the top of the rankings.
The Undercard Delivered
Lone'er Kavanagh produced one of the night's cleanest finishes, stopping Ramazan Temirov in a flyweight bout that announced him to a wider audience. It's the kind of performance that turns a prospect into a name people actually look up afterward.
Alexander Volkov kept his heavyweight momentum rolling. Already ranked #2 at 40-11 (24 KO, 4 SUB) and fresh off a decision over Waldo Cortes Acosta, Volkov used the win to campaign for a title shot — and given the division's thin pool of credible challengers, he has a point.
Aaron Pico added another featherweight scalp to a run that's quietly building. He sits at #12 with a 14-5 record (9 KO, 2 SUB) and arrived off a unanimous-decision win over Patricio Pitbull. He's not kicking in the title door yet, but he's climbing.
So what does UFC 333 leave us with? Two champions who made their cases in very different ways — one by finishing the division's untouchable, the other by surviving the division's most exhausting out. Volkanovski's next move hinges on whether the promotion rolls the dice on a double-champ superfight. Yan's hinges on who's left standing at 135 after a trilogy that may finally be over.
If there's a theme, it's that the hardest wins are the ones that mean the most. Volkanovski got the finish nobody else could. Yan got the decision in a fight that could've gone either way. Both go home with gold, and both go home with a stronger argument than they walked in with.
