Diego Sanchez Jailed on DUI Charge That Could Void His Probation

Diego Sanchez spent Monday night behind bars in Socorro County, New Mexico, after being arrested on drunk driving charges — and the timing couldn't be worse for the retired UFC veteran. Online court records show Sanchez was booked on aggravated driving under the influence, meaning a blood-alcohol level above .16, roughly double the legal limit in most states.

He was also hit with a probation violation. That's the part that matters most, because Sanchez is already seven months into a five-year stretch of supervised probation from a 2025 case. As of now, no bond has been set, and he remains in Socorro County Jail.

How He Got Here

Back in February, Sanchez cut a plea deal with Albuquerque prosecutors after a 2025 arrest on multiple gun charges. He pled guilty to shooting at or from a motor vehicle without causing great bodily harm — a fourth-degree felony — and walked with five years of supervised probation instead of prison time.

One of the conditions attached to that deal: stay away from alcohol. A DUI arrest with a BAC over .16 isn't just a fresh charge, then. It's a direct breach of the terms keeping him out of a cell, which is why the probation violation could open a much bigger door than the DUI itself.

What It Means

Sanchez, an original winner of The Ultimate Fighter, spent nearly two decades on the UFC roster and was one of the most recognizable names in the lightweight and welterweight ranks. His post-fight life has been rockier. The gun case, the plea, the alcohol ban — and now this — form a pattern that's tough to spin as a one-off.

For now, the immediate question is bond and whether prosecutors move to revoke his probation entirely. Either way, a man who was handed a second chance in February is starting September in the exact place that deal was supposed to keep him out of.
