Natalia Silva vs. Wang Cong Booked for Vacant Flyweight Title at UFC 332

The UFC has its UFC 332 headliner, and it's not the one anyone was penciling in a month ago. Natalia Silva (20-5-1) meets China's Wang Cong (10-1) for the vacant flyweight championship on Oct. 3 at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, with the promotion confirming the booking during Saturday's UFC Paris broadcast.

The vacancy exists because Valentina Shevchenko is reportedly on the shelf for as long as a year, though no reason was offered on the telecast. That opens the door for a fresh face at 125 pounds — and Silva has kicked it off its hinges. She's a perfect 8-0 in the UFC and hasn't lost anywhere since 2018, a 14-fight run that's quietly become one of the more impressive active streaks in the women's game.

Silva's Murderer's Row

What makes the 29-year-old Brazilian's case airtight is who she's been beating. Her last three wins came by decision over former UFC champions Rose Namajunas, Alexa Grasso and Jessica Andrade. Grasso — a former flyweight titleholder herself and currently ranked #3 at 17-5-1 — is the kind of scalp that usually earns a title shot on its own. Silva collected three of them back to back.

Wang arrives on her own tear. She announced herself in 2024 with a 62-second knockout of Victoria Leonardo, then hit a speed bump in her second outing, tapping to Gabriella Fernandes. Since then it's been four straight, most recently a unanimous decision over Tracy Cortez at UFC 329 in July. From a stumble to a title shot in the span of a year is a quick turnaround.

The Shevchenko Angle

There's a subplot lurking if Wang wins. She and Shevchenko share history — the two met in a kickboxing bout back in 2015, and Wang left with a decision that Shevchenko has publicly disputed since. Book that grudge for down the line, assuming Shevchenko returns healthy.

The card gets a strong co-main to boot: former flyweight king Deiveson Figueiredo takes on rising bantamweight prospect Payton Talbott. But the story here is a title fight few saw coming, with an undefeated-in-the-UFC Brazilian trying to turn her streak into a belt against an opponent playing catch-up at exactly the right time.
